Nana's Cabbage Rolls
- For the rolls:
- 1 heavy head of green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ C long grain white rice, cooked or raw
- 1 small onion diced fine
- 2 eggs
- 1 T salt
- ¼ t black pepper
- For the sauce:
- 15 oz Can tomato sauce
- 46 oz Can tomato juice
- 1 t fresh lemon juice
- ½ c dark brown sugar
- 1 t salt
- 1 t black pepper
- For the rolls:
- Mix ingredients until combined
- Bring a large pan of salted water to simmer and blanch cabbage leaves for 3 to 5 minutes until soft and pliable.
- Drain cabbage and set aside
- Divide meat mixture into 12 portions and carefully wrap each portion in cabbage. (you can toothpick the rolls if needed)
- Place rolls in an oven proof dish
- For the Sauce:
- combine all ingredients and pour over prepared rolls
- Bake at 375 for 1 hour
