  • 6 t butter sliced into 12 pieces
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices Havarti cheese
  • 6 eggs
  • 8 oz. smoked ham sliced vey then
  • 8 oz. smoked turkey sliced very thin
  • ⅓ C half and half
  • ½ t freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 T honey
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • Powered Sugar
  • Blackberry Jam
Instructions
  1. Heat over to 200 degrees
  2. Place the slices of bread on a 11 X 17 sheet and place in oven for 15 minutes turning the bread over and the tray around at the half way mark.
  3. While the bread is drying beat eggs with half and half until well mixed and add the nutmeg.
  4. Preheat 2 skillets on the stove top. I suggest a covered 10" on medium low and a 14" pan over medium heat..
  5. Remove bread from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes on a wire rack
  6. Line a sheet pan with heavy aluminum foil and place cooled bread on pan. Fold edges of the foil around the bread to form a single layer of bread that is tightly spaced together.
  7. Pour the egg mixture of the bread and coat evenly. Allow bread to soak up all of the egg mixture making sure to have complete coverage..
  8. In the 10 " medium low skillet arrange the ham and turkey site by side to heat drizzle with the honey and black pepper and cover with a lid to allow the meat to heat slowly.
  9. In the larger skillet place a pat of butter in the pan and immediately top with a slice of the egged bread. Repeat with the other 5 slices of bread and butter until all pieces of bread are cooking.
  10. Cook the bread turning as needed to develop a golden crust adding the second pats of butter with the first turn.
  11. Building The Lunch of Monte Christo
  12. Remove two slices of the toast from the pan to a wire rack and top with one slice of the cheddar cheese then evenly divide the turkey and top with the second slice of cheddar.
  13. Add the second slice of bread and top that with a slice of the Havarti cheese.
  14. Evenly divide the ham between the two sandwiches and top why the last slice of cheese and the last slices of the bread.
  15. Press the sandwich firmly to ensure good cheese to bread and meat contact and then cut into quarters and server
Notes
4 inch frill picks stabbed in the plus sign (+) configuration will allow you to cut the sandwich in an X .

Goes great with my blackberry jam.
