Honey Ham and Havarti Sliders: A Sweet and Spicy Game-Day Treat
Sweet, savory, and loaded with flavor, these Honey Ham and Havarti Sliders are the ultimate crowd-pleaser. Perfect for game days or any gathering, they’re easy to make ahead and pack a spicy kick.
Software (a.k.a. Ingredients)
- For the Sliders:
- 1 package King’s Hawaiian honey wheat 12-pack dinner rolls
- 8 oz. honey ham sliced thin
- 8 slices Havarti cheese
- 1/2 sweet onion thinly sliced
- 15 slices bread and butter pickles
- For the Horseradish Mustard Spread:
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sweet and spicy mustard
- 1 teaspoon horseradish or more if you’re feeling bold
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- For the Butter Glaze:
- 1 stick butter melted
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- 1 tablespoon chopped dried onion
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons yellow mustard
Procedure (a.k.a. The Magic)
- Whip Up the Sauces
- In one bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sweet and spicy mustard, horseradish, honey, and apple cider vinegar. Set it aside—this is your flavor-packed spread.
- In another bowl, stir together melted butter, poppy seeds, dried onion, Worcestershire sauce, and yellow mustard. This buttery glaze will make your sliders irresistible.
- Assemble the Sliders
- Grab your pack of King’s Hawaiian rolls and slice them horizontally as one unit (don’t separate the rolls yet).
- Spread the horseradish mustard mixture on both the top and bottom halves of the rolls. Go ahead and slather it—you’re not here to skimp on flavor.
- Evenly scatter the sliced onions across the bottom half of the rolls.
- Layer on the honey ham like you’re stacking a deck of deliciousness.
- Add the Havarti cheese slices, and cap it all off with the top half of the rolls.
- Glaze and Chill
- Place your assembled sliders on a sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil large enough to wrap them up.
- Spoon the butter glaze generously over the tops, making sure the onion and poppy seeds are evenly distributed. Wrap the foil tightly around the sliders and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight if you’re prepping ahead).
- Bake to Perfection
- Preheat your oven to 325°F.
- Place the foil-wrapped sliders on the middle rack of your oven and bake for 15 minutes.
- Carefully open the foil to expose the tops of the sliders and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly, but not too much—you don’t want to miss the melty-cheese moment.
Notes
The horseradish brings some heat, so adjust to your spice tolerance. Or, go wild and double it for a real kick!
If you’re hosting, make these sliders ahead of time and just pop them in the oven when guests arrive.
Be ready for the bottom crusts to crisp up—they’re tough to cut, but totally worth it.
