My Chocolate Cream Pie Is Very Rich! Like its supposed to be. You can use a ready made crust or create your own... USE GOOD CHOCOLATE!

Chocolate Cream Pie
 
Ingredients
  • ⅔ C sugar
  • ¼ C cornstarch
  • ½ t salt
  • 4 egg yolks (reserve 1 white)
  • 3 C whole milk
  • 5 oz. bittersweet chocolate
  • 2 oz. semisweet chocolate,
  • 2 T unsalted butter
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • oreo ready made pie crust
  • Cool Whip Extra Creamy
  • bittersweet chocolate for shavings.
Instructions
  1. Preheat Oven to 375
  2. Spread the egg white over the crust or I often break the crust out of the pan and press it into a tart pan.
  3. Bake crust 5 minutes
  4. Cool Crust while you make the custard.
  5. Combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt in a saucepan
  6. In a bowl whisk together the milk and egg yolks.
  7. Add the milk mixture to the saucepan whisking until the smooth.
  8. Cook over medium heat until the mixture starts to thicken
  9. Immediately turn the heat down to a simmer stirring until thick.
  10. Off heat, whisk in the chocolate, butter and vanilla extract.
  11. Transfer to a bowl. Press a piece of plastic directly over surface
  12. refrigerate until cool, 1-2 hours.
