Cabbage rolls are one of those dishes that was a favorite growing up. Simple but flavorful combination for dinner... add a salad and call it done.

Nana's Cabbage Rolls
 
Ingredients
  • For the rolls:
  • 1 heavy head of green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ C long grain white rice, cooked or raw
  • 1 small onion diced fine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 T salt
  • ¼ t black pepper

  • For the sauce:
  • 15 oz Can tomato sauce
  • 46 oz Can tomato juice
  • 1 t fresh lemon juice
  • ½ c dark brown sugar
  • 1 t salt
  • 1 t black pepper
Instructions
  1. For the rolls:
  2. Mix ingredients until combined
  3. Bring a large pan of salted water to simmer and blanch cabbage leaves for 3 to 5 minutes until soft and pliable.
  4. Drain cabbage and set aside
  5. Divide meat mixture into 12 portions and carefully wrap each portion in cabbage. (you can toothpick the rolls if needed)
  6. Place rolls in an oven proof dish

  7. For the Sauce:
  8. combine all ingredients and pour over prepared rolls
  9. Bake at 375 for 1 hour
